Stephen Kwabena Acheampong, a co-founder, is also development officer of Young People We Care.
Stephen is a product of University of Cape Coast with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Sciences with Economics and Geography majors. He is currently pursuing Master of Arts in Development Management at the Institute for Development Studies at the same university. He possesses a versatile experience and has interest in diverse fields and development issues such as credit risk management, energy risk, project appraisal, project planning, poverty studies, financial literacy, Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) etc.
Stephen has demonstrated leadership acumen as evidenced by serving in various committees and executive boards from his second cycle school days through to the university, in settings such as the Scripture Union, Atlantic Hall Editorial Board, Atlantic Hall Christian Fellowship, Team Leader at Opportunity International Savings and Loans Limited etc. From 2007-2009, as a Credit Officer whose spectrum covers outreach to communities and villages, he brought transformational financial services to the doorsteps of the people which lifted certain households from poverty.
Additionally, He has attended a lot of leadership seminars, workshops and conferences to build his capacity for the world of work. He interacts well with individuals from diverse cultures and all professional levels. He is also a team spirited professional, patient and resourceful, and highly ethical with a strong work ethic. He is detail oriented, decisive and self-starting in implementation of projects and programmes.
Stephen enjoys reading and listening to people, and music. His interest lies in transformational leadership, development issues and financial literacy. He agrees with Kofi Annan, the seventh secretary general of the United Nations, 2001 Nobel Peace Prize laureate on his famous quote that “Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise of progress, in every society, in every family.
